Kings 3

And Solomon made··a··marriage··alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took the daughter of Pharaoh, and brought her into the city of David until he had completed building his house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem all around.
Only the people sacrificed in the high··places, because there was no house built for the name of Jehovah until those days.
And Solomon loved Jehovah, walking in the statutes of David his father; only he sacrificed and burnt··incense in the high··places.
And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for it was the great high··place; a thousand burnt··offerings did Solomon offer··up on that altar.
In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask: What shall I give thee?
And Solomon said, Thou hast done great mercy with Thy servant, David my father, according as he walked before Thy face in truth and in justice, and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and thou hast kept for him this great mercy, and Thou hast given him a son to sit upon his throne, as it is this day.
And now, O Jehovah, my God, Thou hast made· Thy servant ·king instead of David my father; and I am a small lad, I know not how to go··out and to come··in.
And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy people which Thou hast chosen, many people, which cannot be counted nor numbered for multitude.
And give Thou to Thy servant a heart that hears to judge Thy people, to understand between good and evil; for who is··able to judge this great1 people of Thine?
And the word was··good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
And God said unto him, Because that thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself many days, neither hast thou asked riches for thyself, nor hast thou asked the soul of thine enemies, but thou hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment;
behold, I have done according to thy word. Behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been any like thee before thee, neither after thee shall arise any like thee.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and glory, that there shall not be a man among the kings like thee, all thy days.
And if thou wilt walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as David thy father did walk, then will I lengthen thy days.
And Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream; and he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and offered··up burnt··offerings, and made peace··offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
Then there came in two women, harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
And the one woman said, In··me2, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I gave··birth with her, in the house.
And it was, on the third day after I gave··birth, that this woman also gave··birth; and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, except the two of us in the house.
And the son of this woman died in the night, because she lay upon him.
And she arose in the middle of the night, and took my son from beside me, and thy maidservant was asleep, and she laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom.
And I arose in the morning to nurse my son, and behold, he was··dead; but I considered about him in the morning, and behold, he was not my son to whom I had given··birth.
And the other woman said, No, for my son is the living one and thy son is the dead one. And this woman said, No, for thy son is the dead one, and my son is the living. And they spoke before the king.
And the king said, This one said, This is my son that lives, and thy son is the dead; and the other says, No, but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
And the king said, Fetch me a sword. And they brought··in a sword before the king.
And the king said, Sever the living child in two, and give half to one and half to the other one.
And the woman whose son was the living one said unto the king, because her compassions yearned over her son, and she said, In··me my lord, give her the living child, and do not make him dying be put··to··death. But the other said, Let him not be even mine or even thine; sever him.
And the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and do not make him dying be put··to··death; she is his mother.
And all Israel heard the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was within him, to do judgment.
