Samuel 28

And it was, in those days, that the Philistines brought··together their camps for the army to fight against Israel. And Achish said to David, Knowing thou shalt know, that thou shalt go··out with me into the camp, thou and thy men.
And David said to Achish, Therefore thou shalt know what thy servant will do. And Achish said to David, Therefore I shall make1 thee keeper of my head all the days.
And Samuel was dead, and all Israel had bewailed him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had removed the mediums and the soothsayers out of the land.
And the Philistines came··together, and came, and encamped in Shunem; and Saul brought· all Israel ·together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
And Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, and he feared, and his heart was· very ·frightened.
And Saul asked of Jehovah, but Jehovah answered not, neither by dreams, nor by the Urim, nor by the prophets.
And Saul said to his servants, Seek me a woman, a mistress of necromancy, and I will go to her and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman, a mistress of necromancy, in En-dor.
And Saul disguised himself, and clothed· himself ·with other garments, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night; and he said, Divine unto me, I pray thee, by necromancy, and bring· me ·up whom I shall say unto thee.
And the woman said to him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul has done, that he has cut··off the mediums and the soothsayers from the land; and why dost thou stretch··a··snare for my soul, to make me die?
And Saul promised to her by Jehovah, saying, As Jehovah lives, iniquity shall not happen2 to thee for this thing.
And the woman said, Whom shall I bring··up unto thee? And he said, Bring· me ·up Samuel.
And the woman saw Samuel, and she cried with a great voice; and the woman said unto Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? and thou art Saul.
And the king said unto her, Fear not, for what seest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I see gods coming··up out··of the earth.
And he said to her, What is his form? And she said, An old man comes··up; and he is cloaked with a mantle. And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bent his face toward the earth and bowed· himself ·down.
And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou made me tremble to bring· me ·up? And Saul said, I am besieged exceedingly, and the Philistines are fighting··against me, and God has turned··aside from me, and answers me not any··more either by the hand of the prophets, or by dreams; and I called thee, that thou mayest make· me ·to··know what I shall do.
And Samuel said, Why dost thou ask me, and Jehovah has turned··aside from thee, and has become thine enemy?
And Jehovah has done to him as He spoke by my hand; and Jehovah has rent the kingdom from thy hand, and given it to thy companion, to David.
Because thou didst not obey the voice of Jehovah, and didst not do according to the fierceness of His anger upon Amalek, therefore has Jehovah done this thing to thee this day.
And Jehovah will give Israel also with thee into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me; also Jehovah will give the camp of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.
And Saul made··haste and fell his full stature to the earth, and he feared exceedingly because of the words of Samuel; there was not even power in him, for he had not eaten bread all the day and all the night.
And the woman came to Saul, and saw that he was vexed exceedingly, and she said to him, Behold, thy handmaid has hearkened to thy voice, and I have set my soul3 in the palm of my hand, and have hearkened to thy words, which thou hast spoken to me.
And now, I pray thee, hearken thou also to the voice of thy handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength when thou goest on thy way.
And he refused and said, I will not eat; but his servants, and also the woman, compelled him, and he hearkened to their voice. And he arose from the earth, and sat on the bed.
And the woman had a calf of the stall in the house; and she hastened and sacrificed it; and she took meal and kneaded it, and did bake it unleavened.
And she presented it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. And they rose··up and went away that night.
