Isaiah 8

And Jehovah said to me, Take unto thee a great scroll, and write on it with a man’s stylus, Maher-shalal-chash-baz1.
And I called··to··witness for me faithful witnesses, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
And I came··near to the prophetess; and she conceived, and gave··birth to a son. And Jehovah said to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-chash-baz;
for before the lad shall know to call out, My father and my mother, the belongings of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.
And Jehovah spoke also to me again, saying,
Because this people rejects the waters of Shiloach, which go slowly, and has joy in Rezin and the son of Remaliah,
therefore, behold, the Lord brings··up upon them the waters of the river, the numerous and the many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and it shall go··up over all its channels, and it shall go over all its banks;
and shall pass··through in Judah, and shall overflow and cross··over; even··to the neck shall it reach; and the stretchings of his wings shall fill the breadth of Thy land, O Immanuel!
Do··evil, ye peoples, and you shall be··dismayed; and give··ear, all ye of distant lands; gird yourselves, and you shall be··dismayed; gird yourselves, and you shall be··dismayed.
Take··counsel of counsel, and it shall be made··of··none··effect; speak the word, and it shall not arise, for God is with us2.
For thus spoke Jehovah to me with a firm hand, and instructed me to keep from walking in the way of this people, saying,
Say ye not, A conspiracy, to all those to whom this people shall say, A conspiracy; and fear ye not their fear; neither shall you be terrified.
Jehovah of Armies Himself shall you sanctify; and He shall be your fear3, and He shall terrify you.
And He shall be to you for a sanctuary; but for a stone of striking and for a rock of stumbling to the two houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the dwellers of Jerusalem.
And many among them shall stumble, and shall fall, and be broken; and shall be snared, and captured.
Bundle the Testimony, seal the Law, in My learned ones.
And I will tarry for Jehovah, who hides His faces from the house of Jacob; and I will wait for Him.
Behold, I and the children whom Jehovah has given to me are for signs and for miracles in Israel from Jehovah of Armies, who resides in Mount Zion.
And when they shall say to you, Seek unto those who have mediums and to soothsayers, to those who chirp and who moan; should not a people seek unto their God? Should they seek, instead of to the living, to the dead?
To the Law and to the Testimony! If they will not say according··to this word, there shall be no dawn for them.
But he shall pass··through it, hardened and hungry; and it shall be, when he is··hungry, and enraged with himself, he shall revile his king and his gods, and shall turn· his ·face upward.
And to the earth he shall look, and behold, adversity and darkness, obscurity of anguish, and he shall be impelled by thick··darkness.
