Psalms 47

1 To the victor, for the sons of Korah; a psalm.
All ye peoples, sound··with the palm of the hand;Shout to God with the voice of singing··aloud.
2 For Jehovah Most··High is to be feared,A great King over all the earth.
3 He subjugates peoples under us,And nations under our feet.
4 He will choose for us our inheritance,The excellency of Jacob whom He loves. Selah.
5 God has gone··up with a trumpet blast,Jehovah with the voice of the shophar1.
6 Sing· ye ·a··psalm··to God, sing··a··psalm;Sing· ye ·a··psalm to our King, sing··a··psalm.
7 For the King of all the earth is God;Sing· ye ·a··psalm, a maskil2.
8 God reigns over the nations;God sits on the throne of His holiness.
9 The willing··ones of the peoples are gathered,The people of the God of Abraham; For to God are the shields of the earth; He is exalted3 exceedingly.

1A “shophar” is a trumpet made from a ram’s horn.

2This verse identifies “maskil” as a type of psalm. It is named from the Hebrew word meaning “giving intelligence.”

3literally, “caused to go up,” but see AC 1788:4
