Psalms 54

1 To the victor, with neginoth1; a maskil2 of David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Does not David hide himself with us?
O God, by Thy name, save me,And in Thy might, make··judgment··for me.
2 O God, hear my prayer;Give··ear to the sayings of my mouth.
3 For strangers have risen··up against me, and the terrible ones seek my soul; They have not set God in··front··of them. Selah.
4 Behold, God is a helper to me;The Lord is among those who support my soul.
5 He will turn··back the evil to my foes; With Thy truth cut· them ·away.
6 With a freewill offering will I sacrifice to Thee;I will confess Thy name, O Jehovah, for it is good.
7 For from all adversity He has rescued me;And on my enemies my eye has looked.

2Psalm 47:7 identifies “maskil” as a type of psalm. It is named from the Hebrew word meaning “giving intelligence.”
